"Emma, and her personalised visual timetables, has helped us secure tens of thousands of dollars in inclusive funding for our students.
The Disability Inclusion Funding model is a new funding model in government school. It looks at what students can achieve when they are afforded the accommodations they need in order to thrive.
Emma's personalised visual timetables have played a significant part in our offering of inclusive practices, particularly in regards to helping students carry out tasks, organise their routines and handle stress.
By building a visual of their own day which includes academic subjects as well as social/emotional/behavioural requirements, independence is encouraged in our students. They are also better supported to carry out coordinated actions to complete the requirements of each day-to-day procedure. This can include things such as getting the required materials ready for the sessions after lunch or knowing to pack their bags early because of an appointment. In addition, these timetables help eliminate feelings of anxiety in students, particularly those with a disability, as disruptions in regular routines are discussed early and displayed at their table for the whole day.
